Lucy is a beautiful 6-year-old Great Dane with a heart as big as she is. After experiencing a major life change, she has spent time in foster care learning that the world can be safe again—and every day her sweet, loving personality continues to shine.
Once Lucy settles into a routine, she becomes a devoted companion. She loves being with her people, happily follows her foster mom from room to room, and enjoys relaxing nearby while life goes on around her. Whether she’s stretched out on the mat or carrying around her favorite stuffed toy, Lucy simply wants to be part of the family.
Lucy is house-trained and understands a crate routine. She willingly goes into her crate when asked and has done well being crated at night and when her foster family is away for short errands. Like many dogs adjusting to a new home, she is happiest when she’s with her people and is excited to see them when they return.
Lucy rides well in the car and recently did very well during a grooming appointment. Although she was a little anxious, the groomer reported that she handled the experience beautifully.
Lucy has successfully lived with two resident large dogs in her foster home after slow, thoughtful introductions. As her confidence has grown, so has her playful personality! She has a fun, bouncy side, enjoys toys, and loves being involved in whatever her people are doing. She will thrive with a family that provides gentle, consistent boundaries and continues to reinforce good manners as she settles into her forever home.
Lucy is cautious when unfamiliar people enter the home and may bark while she decides whether someone is safe. With calm, patient introductions and a little time, she has already shown encouraging progress and continues to build confidence.
Because Lucy has shown a strong interest in cats while in foster care, she would do best in a home without cats or other small animals. During her adjustment period with other dogs, we also recommend managing toys and other high-value items until everyone has comfortably settled into a routine.
According to her previous owner, Lucy has done well with children. Her foster home does not have children, so we have not been able to evaluate her around kids.
Lucy would be happiest with a family that understands that every dog needs time to adjust to a new home. Give her a little patience, a predictable routine, and lots of love, and you’ll be rewarded with an incredibly loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side.

Lucy would do well preferably with adopters who have experience with large or giant breeds and with adopters who are comfortable giving a new dog a few days to decompress and using calm introductions with visitors.
